Key Lock
This terminology relates to a locking device accessible by a key.
Euro Cylinder
This refers to a single sided key locking facility which offers increased key security over a standard cam key lock.
Electronic Combination Lock
This terminology relates to a push button combination code which operates by means of an electronic current, provided in the most part by batteries. Multiple access codes (some cabinets) allow for audit trail and time locking.
Mechanical Push Button Lock
This refers to a product offering a push button combination locking facility which does not rely on any power supply.
Dial Combination Lock
A dial combination lock offers high security and is ideal for multiple users. The product is accessed via entering a code on a wheel device and as the sequence of numbers is entered they interact with several parallel discs within the device. Used mostly within the safe industry.
Cylinder Lock
A cylinder lock is a standard locking facility which can be changed within altering the bolt work and can be keyed alike or master keyed.
Keyed Alike
This system allows for a number of cylinders to be operated by the same key. It is ideally suited to residential applications such as front and back door.
Master Keyed
A master keyed system involves each lock having its own individual key which will not operate any other lock in the system but where all locks can be operated by a single “Master Key”.
Fixed Key Strips
Found predominantly in key cabinets. A key strip relates to the row of hooks that you can attach keys to. Fixed means that you are unable to adjust their location as they are mounted into the body of the product.
Powder Coated
Powder coating refers to a type of finish that is applied as a free-flowing dry powder. It is used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional liquid paint.
Padlock Hasp
A hasp is a fastener for a door or lid. A hinged metal plate is fitted over a staple and in the case of a ‘padlock hasp’ is locked with a padlock.
Turn Lock Closure
This closure operates by simply turning the locking device typically 45° to shut and back the opposite way to open. This type of “lock” is not to be considered where security is a requirement.
Key Clip
Key Clips are key holders which hand on specially designed a key rail (with the Durable key range) which securely holds them in place, but does not restrict easy removal.
Packaging – Reshipper
This type of packaging is not used for marketing or display purposes. Reshipper typically relates to where an item is packaged using the simplest material which facilitates the compact shipping of multi products in the most economical way.
Piano Hinge
A narrow rectangular hinge with a small diameter pin and numerous holes for screws used for joining two edges that require support all along their lengths.
Sign out tabs
When a key is removed from a cabinet the user records their home and date of removal on a “sign out tab” and places this on the hook relating to the key they have removed. This provides a paper trial of key usage.

This relates to the standard of which a product conforms to.
VDS – Schadenverhütung is an international accredited and notified testing and certification institution for Fire Prevention and Safety Technology as well as for Physical and Electronic Protection against intrusion.

Adjustable key rails
Found predominantly in key cabinets. Key rails refer to the row of hooks that you attached keys to. Adjustable means that you can place the rows to suit your needs.
Mechanical Slam Lock
This a mechanical lock. When you close the device is automatically locks. There is not need to aid the locking process by manual intervention.
Mechanical Dead Lock
A lock in which a bolt is moved by means of a key or thumb turn and is positively stopped in its projected position.
Polycarbonate
Is a particular group of thermoplastic polymers which can be easily moulded and benefits from temperature, impact resistance and optical properties.
